The opportunity
Fort Energy is a growing solar PV, battery storage and heat pump installer based in Morpeth, and we're looking for a sharp, experienced electrician to take ownership of the electrical side of our installs.
Renewables experience is welcome but not required. If you're a qualified, capable electrician, we'll pay for your MCS solar PV and battery storage training and put you on a clear path to becoming our MCS Technical Lead.
About Fort Energy
Fort Energy designs and installs solar PV, battery storage and heat pump systems for homes and businesses across the North East. We're MCS and RECC certified, we're busy, and we're growing. Our founder has been running the electrical side himself, and sales demand has grown to the point where we need someone great to take it on.
Examples of our work
No two weeks are the same. You'll work on a real mix of projects:
- Commercial solar – a growing part of our work. One recent project: around 160 panels delivering roughly 80 kW of solar for a commercial site.
- Large-scale battery storage – including a 256 kWh skid-mounted battery system for an off-grid industrial application.
- Off-grid systems – Victron-based setups with integrated generators. Common for us, rare for most electricians.
- Full re-roofs with in-roof solar – we strip and re-roof, building the panels into the roof as it goes on.
- Domestic solar and battery installs – classic home systems that are still part of what we do.
- Standby generators and EV chargers – rounding out a genuinely varied workload.
You won't be on your own
That's a broad, technical range, and we don't expect you to know it all on day one. You'll be taking over from our founder, who designs our systems and knows this work inside out. He'll be on hand to guide you through how everything works, from system design to commissioning.
We're not looking for the finished article. We're looking for a good electrician who is genuinely keen to learn renewables.
Who this suits
- Early in your career and ambitious – you're qualified, hungry to progress, and ready to live and breathe a specialist trade rather than staying on the tools for someone else forever.
- Experienced and steady – you've been in the industry a while, have picked up some solar, battery or EV work along the way, and want to build real depth in it.
The role
This is roughly 70% hands-on electrical work and 30% site leadership.
Hands-on (about 70%)
- Installing and commissioning solar PV systems, inverters and battery storage
- DC and AC cabling, consumer unit work, isolation and protection
- Inspection, testing and certification of installations
- Fault-finding and remedial work on existing systems, plus off-grid Victron systems, generators and EV chargers
Site leadership (about 30%)
- Setting jobs up on site and getting our electrical and roofing subcontractors established
- Handing over and overseeing work to make sure it meets Fort Energy and MCS standards
- Liaising with customers on site and at handover
- Completing paperwork and evidence for MCS compliance
What you'll need
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
- Inspection and Testing qualification
- Full UK driving licence and your own tools
- Confidence working at height and on varied domestic and commercial sites
Nice to have
- Level 3 Award in Solar PV installation
- Level 3 Award in Electrical Energy Storage Systems
- Previous renewables or MCS experience
Don't have the renewables qualifications yet? We'll fund them once you're settled in the role.
Where you could go
Once you're qualified and have built up experience with us, you'll step up to become Fort Energy's MCS Technical Lead, with the potential to become Site Lead as the business grows, and ultimately Lead Design Electrician. This is a ground-floor opportunity with a company that's scaling.

- Paid MCS solar PV and battery training
- Holiday entitlement and the usual benefits
- Local work across Northumberland and Tyneside
